Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray worked very well together in the first Grand Slam of the 2025 season – the Australian Open – in which the Serbian legend reached the semifinals after defeating Carlos Alcaraz thanks to a truly exceptional performance.
Unfortunately, the former world number 1 injured his left thigh during that match against the Spaniard, which is why he was unable to practice in the following two days and was not 100% against Alexander Zverev in the semifinals.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion struggled in the first set, before retiring and walking out of the Rod Laver Arena overwhelmed by boos from the Australian crowd.
The next day, the 37-year-old from Belgrade posted on social media the MRI of his left thigh injury in which a tear was evident.
Nole’s absence from the professional tour was shorter than expected, as there were initially rumors of a stop of a couple of months.
Nole is happy to continue with Murray
Murray did not follow Novak to Doha this week, but will return regularly to his box in Indian Wells early next month.
During an interview in Doha, the Serbian champion revealed some interesting details about his collaboration with Andy: “We had a long conversation the day after the Australian Open semi-final and reflected on the time we spent together.
I expressed my desire to continue working together and he replied that he would take time to reflect, talk to his family and decide. I am really happy that he has agreed to continue this collaboration. We haven’t defined how long we’ll work together, but we’ve agreed that we’ll be together in American tournaments and some red clay events. After that we will talk again.”
It’s no secret that Djokovic’s main goal in 2025 is to clinch another Grand Slam title, a truly titanic feat at nearly 38 years old. The former world No.1 will have his best chance at Wimbledon, where he also reached the final last year despite knee surgery.
