Jaren Jackson Jr., a key player for the Memphis Grizzlies, has undergone surgery to repair a turf toe injury in his right foot. The procedure will require a period of recovery before he is able to return to the court and rejoin his team in the NBA.

The Grizzlies say Jaren Jackson Jr. will be re-evaluated in about 12 weeks and is expected to make a full recovery.

Jaren Jackson Jr. made the 2024-25 Kia NBA NBA All-Defensive Second Team and was one of 5 players with 100 3s and 100 blocks.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis Grizzlies All-Star big man Jaren Jackson Jr. is recovering from surgery for a turf toe injury and will be re-evaluated in about 12 weeks.

The team announced Wednesday that Jackson’s surgery was complete, coming a day after saying the 25-year-old would need a procedure after hurting his right foot while participating in offseason basketball activities.

Memphis said Jackson is expected to recover fully.

The 6-foot-10 Jackson, a first-round draft pick in 2018, earned his second All-Star selection last season, when he averaged 22.2 points and 5.6 rebounds. He was honored as the Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year for 2022-23, when he led the league in blocks at 3 per game.

Jackson reportedly agreed to a five-year, $240-million extension as the Grizzlies seek to build around him and star point guard Ja Morant. Memphis was swept by eventual champion Oklahoma City in the first round of the playoffs in April.
