Curve Model Turns to Instagram Followers for Advice on Choosing the Perfect Wedding Guest Dress, Then Publicly Addresses and Responds to All the Negative Comments and Criticisms She Receives About Her Outfit Choices in a Bold Social Media Move
Soph Hughes did a wedding guest dress try-on haul but wasn’t prepared for all the rude responses
Soph Hughes is putting all her haters on blast — for good reason.
The curve model, who has over 122,000 Instagram followers, confidently stood up for herself after getting a negative response to her wedding guest dress try-on haul in early June.
On Friday, June 13, Hughes took to social media to showcase the dresses she was looking at wearing to a wedding.
“Help me pick a wedding guest dress for a black tie wedding at a castle in Toronto in less than 2 weeks time . I am absolutely in love with all three of these @clubllondon dresses! Which is your fave 1, 2 or 3!? Genuinely help me because I can’t choose
The video began with Hughes explaining that she was set to attend a black-tie wedding at a castle in Toronto and did not know which of three Club L London outfits she should wear.
Hughes explained that she was torn among all three because they fit her like “an absolute glove” and are “all so beautiful.”
The first option was a baby blue dress with a ruched skirt that Hughes said was so “flattering on my curves.” For her second option, Hughes showcased a long, black, sleeveless dress with a piece of flowing fabric that added to the “vibe.”
Her last dress to choose from was a pale yellow, low-cut, spaghetti-strap dress that Hughes said worked “perfectly” for a castle wedding.
An Instagram video posted on June 20 showed that Hughes ultimately went for the yellow dress. She wrote in her caption, “A moment for this STUNNING @clubllondon dress. Absolutely gorgeous on the model and gorgeous on a curvy body too.” In a June 23 video, she shared that her decision was actually more fraught than viewers may have thought.
“GOD FORBID A WOMAN IS CONFIDENT IN HER SIZE 16 BODY I love this dress, I felt beautiful in it. Shame on the hundredsssss of women who decided to tell me my body needed to be smaller in order to wear it, who decided to tell me I owe the world my slimness, that my lumps and bumps somehow make me less than. Of course I didn’t listen, I wore the damn dress
The post featured different photos of the model wearing the yellow dress, along with screenshots of negative comments she received.
“Only 2 the others are unflattering and not suited to your body type. The yellow is a huge no,” one comment read.
“The blue on is great but a big NO to the yellow it is too tight,” another comment read. Despite the criticism, Hughes was proud to wear the dress.
“God forbid a woman is confident in her body and simply exists rather than trying to change everything about herself. Wore the dress, felt beautiful, didn’t listen to a word these women said,” she wrote.
