British tennis star Katie Boulter made a cryptic remark about getting married and starting a family following Belinda Bencic’s Abu Dhabi Open triumph.
Bencic won her first WTA 500 title since giving birth to her daughter, Bella, last April. And that follows Madison Keys winning the Australian Open title – her maiden Grand Slam – not long after getting married in November.
Boulter already has one WTA 500 title to her name, having won the San Diego Open in 2024. But she is yet to open her Grand Slam account.
In a social media post, Boulter jokingly suggested that settling down and having kids could be the best thing for her career. She wrote on X: “Get married = win slam. Have a baby = win 500 [taking notes emoji].”
The 28-year-old’s partner, Alex de Minaur, was seemingly left in the dark over Boulter’s thoughts as he delivered a tongue-in-cheek reply which read: “You got any ideas you wanna share with me??? [laughing emoji].”
Boulter and De Minaur are already well on their way to getting married, having announced their engagement on social media before Christmas. It is not known when they plan to formally tie the knot.

There has been no pregnancy announcement as yet, and De Minaur’s perplexed response to Boulter’s latest X post suggests there have been no conversations about it either. Naomi Osaka, Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka and Kim Clijsters are among the female tennis stars who have enjoyed sucess after stepping away from competitive tennis to start a family.
Boulter and De Minaur have been together for around five years. During that time they have put their heads together on the court, reaching the second round of the mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 2023.
But De Minaur has explained how it is healthy for them to find things to do away from sport, particularly when they are at a tournament together.

“It is important to try and go out for dinners, go out for coffees, try to make life as normal as you can,” he told the ATP. “And enjoy the time with the people you have. Whether it’s friends, whether it’s players, your own team. For me, that’s the best way to make time go quicker in these long stints.
“Because ultimately there’s the tennis side of things, it’s always going to be intense and stressful and a lot of focus needed for that, but as soon as you step off the court, try to immerse yourself in the different cities, the different activities, restaurants, coffees, and just live as much of a normal life as you can.”
