Candace Parker has risked the wrath of Caitlin Clark fans after making a comment about her former teammate Chelsea Gray.

Candace Parker claimed another point guard was the best in the world instead of Caitlin Clark

Candace Parker may have ruffled some feathers among Caitlin Clark’s fans after making a comment about the Indiana Fever star’s standing in the WNBA.

Three-time WNBA champion Parker, who has played with many exceptional basketball players, including point guards, was discussing the teams competing in the inaugural season of Unrivaled when she started talking about her former teammate and current Las Vegas Aces star Chelsea Gray.

Having won the 2016 WNBA Finals together while playing for the Los Angeles Sparks, Parker is well aware of Gray’s talent and is uniquely positioned to comment on her achievements and status among the league’s best guards. While discussing Gray’s impact on Rose Basketball Club, Parker referred to her former teammate as the “best point guard in the world” multiple times.

This comment, although seemingly harmless, has been perceived by some on social media as a basketball faux pas for not naming Clark as No. 1. “Candace Parker probably just p—– off an entire fanbase before we tipped off,” one fan wrote, accompanied by three crying emojis.

It makes sense for Parker to call Gray the best point guard in the league given their past as teammates and Gray’s accomplishments. Gray is a three-time WNBA champion, having won a championship with the Sparks and twice with the Aces. Interestingly, Parker and Gray won championships together twice, in 2016 and 2023.

The Aces standout has joined the serene presence at Rose BC in Unrivaled, teaming up with notable names such as Angel Reese, Brittney Sykes, Kahleah Copper, Azura Stevens, and Lexie Hull. While Unrivaled boasts an array of WNBA luminaries, Indiana Fever’s ace Clark will not hit the court with them.

Despite receiving an invite to the fledgling 3-on-3 league, Clark opted out, keeping her reasons under wraps. Yet, a source from the league disclosed that the 22-year-old powerhouse is skipping the league spotlight in favor of some much-needed downtime.

Pundits nod to the decision, considering the relentless year Clark endured, beginning with Iowa duty and culminating in a postseason run with the Fever—all within a single whirlwind year.

Among the commentators, Skip Bayless took to X, applauding Clark’s game break, acknowledging. “After all the jealousy and resentment she felt last season – all the cheap shots and bullying attempts – she made a late-season run at MVP,” he wrote. “SHE’S the reason WNBA popularity exploded last season. She doesn’t need 3-on-3.”

While Clark won’t be competing in the inaugural season of Unrivaled, the opportunity remains should she decide to join. Alex Bazzell, the President of Unrivaled, acknowledges that Clark had no downtime and emphasizes that she’s always welcome to join the league.
