Kane Brown and Jelly Roll joined forces for an emotional new collaboration, “Haunted,” a song that finds the hitmakers exploring their inner struggles with depression throughout the track’s poignant lyrics.
“’Haunted’ is a song that I wrote about depression,” Brown explained in a statement. “It’s about everything that I go through, and I know a lot of people that go through as well. It’s really just a song that I wanted to put out there just to cause awareness, because if you don’t go through it then you’re not going to understand it, and I feel like this song sums it up quite a bit, and my boy Jelly Roll jumped on it just to turn it up even more.”
Kane Brown And Jelly Roll Team Up For Vulnerable Duet, “Haunted”
As he sings about waking up in cold sweats and the pressures of success, Brown opens up about a sense of isolation, despite his fame and accomplishments. He goes on to detail that, even as a “superstar,” he often feels lonely and battles with the feeling of being a “ghost.” Brown also reminds listeners that they are not alone, highlighting that mental health struggles are something even celebrities and musicians face at times, despite appearing to have it all.
“Wakin’ up in cold sweats/ California king beds/ Got the diamond ring set/ Shoes that ain’t released yet/ Maserati sports car/ Singin’ songs that everybody knows on a guitar/ They say I’m a superstar/ But oh (Oh)/ I still got this feeling in my bones (Bone)/ Happens every time that I’m alone/ Part of me is feelin’ like a ghost, oh-woah,” Brown sings in the opening verse of the desolate tune, produced by Dan Huff and co-written by Brown alongside Gabe Foust and Jaxson Free.

Jelly Roll’s verse explains feeling lost despite his success, and questioning if everything he’s worked for is truly worth it, or if the fame and money has only made his problems more intense. “If I’m bein’ real/ I spent my whole life escapin’ the pills/ If I’m bein’ real/ I think I was happier when I couldn’t pay the bills/ If I’m bein’ real (If I’m bein’ real)/ I’m searchin’ for purpose/ I feel wealthy but worthless/ If I’m bein’ real/ I don’t know if it’s worth it,” Jelly Roll sings on the second verse.
The chorus further highlights the haunting aspects of Brown and Jelly Roll’s internal thoughts. “’Cause I’m haunted by the voice in my head/ I’m haunted by the taste of that lead/ I wanted too many times to jump off of the edge/ Thinkin’ I was better off dead/ I’m haunted only ever other night/ I’m haunted, and I wish I knew why/ I wanted too many times to be gone by the mornin’/ If I’m honest/ Yeah, I’m haunted/ Woah, yeah/ Yeah, I’m haunted (I’m haunted)” Brown and Jelly Roll sing on the chorus of the tune that was written while on tour in Europe in 2023.
Brown previously described “Haunted” as a “heavy song about depression and horrible thoughts and feelings that I feel like a lot of us go through but don’t like to talk about with other people.”

The vulnerable track was released alongside an accompanying music video that features the two country superstars. Directed by Alex Alvga and filmed over the course of 2024 and early 2025, the video shows Brown and Jelly Roll dealing with their mental health struggles and the emotional pain of being alone with their thoughts while trying to heal and face their inner demons.
Not Kane Brown’s First Time Addressing Mental Health In A Song
This isn’t the first time Kane Brown has opened up about his struggles with depression. In July 2021, the chart-topping singer/songwriter released “Memory,” a collaboration with Blackbear, that challenges the stigma that surrounds depression and anxiety. Written by Brown alongside Matthew Musto (blackbear), Andrew Goldstein, Joe Kirkland and ERNEST, “Memory” finds the pair singing about living in the moment and escaping from any pains that life throws at you along the way.
“I wanna live life fast, I don’t know how to slow down/ I wanna get high, I don’t know how to come down/ Help me now, I’m on runnin’ on empty/ And I don’t wanna be a memory/ Live life fast, I don’t know how to slow down/ I wanna get high, I don’t know how to come down/ Help me now, I’m on runnin’ on empty/ And I don’t wanna be a memory,” Brown and Blackbear sang on the chorus of the song, which was produced by Andrew Goldstein and blackbear.
