Venus Williams has landed an exciting new job ahead of the French Open. The seven-time Grand Slam champion is set to join TNT Sports’ punditry team in America, in their first year as the US rights holders for Roland Garros.
Williams has not been on court since the 2024 Miami Open, but she has not officially retired and is currently listed as an inactive player. While the 44-year-old won’t be competing in Paris, she will give her insight as part of a star-studded broadcasting team.
Alongside Williams, John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, Chris Evert, Jim Courier, Lindsay Davenport and Caroline Wozniacki – who recently announced that she is expecting her first child – are set to front TNT Sports’ French Open coverage in the United States.
Sloane Stephens, the 2018 runner-up who now sits at No. 301 in the world, will also be part of the team. The American has not played a match since February and is currently out injured.
TNT announced the news in an ad break after the NBA Playoffs contest between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Clippers.
“I know what it’s like to battle on the clay, and I’m looking forward to sharing that experience,” Williams said of her new role.

The former world No. 1 never lifted the trophy at Stade Roland Garros, but she finished runner-up in 2002, losing to her sister Serena.
The older Williams sister has not competed at the French Open since 2021, and her last match win at the tournament came eight years ago.
The 44-year-old has yet to officially retire from professional tennis, but her latest career move could be a sign that her playing days are over.
Williams recently had to quash reports that she would be making a comeback in Indian Wells. Tournament organisers prematurely announced that she had received a wildcard into the WTA 1000 event.
But the American admitted she had no idea she had been given a free pass into the main draw and said she would be out of the country during the tournament.
Tommy Haas, the Indian Wells tournament director, later said: “Our team has been informed that Venus is not accepting the wildcard this year.
“We wish Venus all the best and hope to see her back in Indian Wells in the future.”
