Forget about slaving over a hot stove or dealing with straining, because all this culinary hack requires is a common bowl and a simple dinner plate. Taking to TikTok in an enlightening clip, Amy shared how she picked up the technique from her father, expressing her own kitchen struggles, she said: “Please tell me that I’m not the only one that hates making rice.

“We eat a lot of rice and I’ve never been very good at cooking it. It always stuck to the pan, It was always a little bit stodgy and I always made too much.

“A little while ago my dad came up with a great way to make rice in the microwave and it is honestly a game changer. You get just the right amount, there’s no need to drain it and you haven’t got a saucepan to soak.”

If you’re on the hunt for a simpler way to cook rice, Amy’s recipe is just what you need.

Easy Microwave Rice

Ingredients

10.5 ounces Basmati rice

23 ouncesl cold tap water

One tsp salt

Method

Start by placing the rice in a large mixing bowl. Rinse it thoroughly to get rid of the starch – you can do this right in the mixing bowl, changing the water a few times.

Next, add a teaspoon of salt and cold tap water. Remember, no stirring!

Pop the bowl in the microwave, uncovered. Cook it on full power for ten minutes, then take it out and give it a single stir.

Put it back in the microwave for another three minutes. Make sure all the water has been absorbed by tilting the bowl to the side.
